This Thursday, December 6, Archives and Special Collections is pleased to offer a special one-day exhibition of selected rare books and ephemera from the private collection of the Dreier Family. R. Chad Dreier, former chair of LMU’s Board of Trustees and his wife Ginni, current member of LMU’s Board of Trustees with their daughter, Kristin M.F.A. ‘69 and son, Douglas are pleased to share their passion for reading with our community through this collection.
The exhibition contains highlights of the Dreier Family Collection, which emphasizes the most beloved books of the 19th and, especially, 20th centuries. The books will be displayed closed, so these particular books were selected also for their beautiful dust-jacket art and bindings. Fans eagerly anticipating the upcoming film of The Hobbit may want to take special note that the first edition of The Hobbit, along with a wonderful map of Middle Earth, signed by Tolkien, will be among the treasures on display. Other titles featured include Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, The Catcher in the Rye, The Sword in the Stone, The Grapes of Wrath, and Uncle Tom's Cabin.
These beautiful works will be on display in the Archives & Special Collections classroom from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday December 6. This special exhibition is free and open to all.
