Next Tuesday, Hannon Library's Faculty Pub Night is joining forces with the Office of Black Student Service's celebration of Black History Month.
All are invited to join us in welcoming Dr. Adilifu Nama as he discusses his recent work, Super Black: American Pop Culture and Black Superheroes.
Tuesday, February 7
5:30 – 6:30 p.m.
Von der Ahe Family Suite / Library Level 3
Associate Professor Adilifu Nama is current chair of the African American Studies Department at LMU. His research is highly interdisciplinary and rests at the intersection of African American studies, cultural studies, black cultural criticism, critical theory, film studies and communication studies. Moreover he examines popular culture as a compelling conduit that connects peoples and places, politics and power, commerce and commodities in ways that forge new social relations, lifestyles and racial subjectivities concerning black racial formation.
In addition to Super Black, his other publications include the award-winning Black Space: Imagining Race in Science Fiction Film (University of Texas Press, 2008), along with a variety of articles examining black racial formation and representation in sci-fi film, comics, hip-hop music and television.
The event is free and open to the public. Pub snacks and refreshments will be served, and copies of Dr. Nama's work will be available for purchase and signing.
