On Tuesday, November 15th, the Department of Archives & Special Collections will be hosting a day-long Open House from 9am to 5pm. In addition to our current exhibit, Sustaining Splendor: Art and Artifacts from the Library’s Special Collections, we will be setting out a selection of favorite items from our University Archives, Manuscripts, and Rare Book collections.
If you have ever been curious about what’s inside the vault at the William H. Hannon Library waiting for you, or how to request access to use materials in our reading room, this is your chance to talk with the collections curators.
Many of the Open House items will be "sneak peeks" to our upcoming Centennial exhibitions that continue to honor our 100 years of donors who gave fantastic gifts to the LMU Library.
Yes, we will have our amazing Shakespeare First Folio out on display. Yes also to our glorious Gutenberg Bible leaf, medieval manuscript leaves, and a volume of the magnificent Saint John's Bible Heritage Edition.
Added to these will be wonderful photographs and intriguing documents from the University Archives (ever wonder where the Centennial images on all those banners and brochures are coming from?) as well as from the Center for the Study of Los Angeles (CSLA) Research Collection and other important archival collections.
The Department of Archives & Special Collections is located on Level 3 of the William H. Hannon Library. The Open House is open to anyone over the age of 18, and to children supervised by an adult. No appointment or RSVP is necessary for this event.
For more information, please contact the Department of Archives & Special Collections at 310.338.5710 or Special.Collections@lmu.edu.
Come spend part of your day on Tuesday exploring your university's treasures! We hope to see you there.
